Hand-me-downs

Isn't funny how sometimes the best things are hand-me-downs? I was making a cake today, and I was just thinking about how I love my cake pan. I have 2 13 x 9 inch cake pans that I love. I actually don't know where I got them. They are either from my mom or my grandma. They are so nice--everything seems to turn out well in them, and they each have sturdy, metal lids to go with them. I also have a pot that I LOVE. I like making soup, except it seems like I burn soup every time when I let it simmer. With this one soup pot, I have NEVER burned any soup in it. It is heavy-duty, and has a nice cover. It can be used for many, many things---soup, popcorn, pasta etc, etc. I don't know what I would do without this pot---probably burn every soup I ever tried to make! ha,ha. This pot is from my mom. She has one just like it that was her mom's.

I love my hand-me-downs!

Conventional, Organic, or Genetically modified??

The little stickers on fruits and vegetables have digits that let you know whether they're conventionally grown or organic, and if they're genetically modified (GM). There are many benefits to knowing this information:
• The health risks -- GM foods have been in stores only since the 1990s, so the long-term health risks are unknown
• The environmental risks -- Scientists are concerned that GMOs will reduce biodiversity
• The taste benefits -- People all over the world agree that the range of possible flavors is greater without a few GM foods crowding out the many natural varietiesHere’s what you should look for:

• A four-digit number means the produce is conventionally grown
• A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it's organic
• A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it's GM

Fireproof

Bob and I saw the movie Fireproof about 2 weeks ago. It was AWESOME!!! If you haven't seen it, you MUST! We thoroughly enjoyed it. After the movie, we individually decided to do the Love Dare to each other. (you won't understand what the Love Dare is until you see the movie) Then one day, Bob said, "guess what book it just started....the Love Dare". I said, "Me too!!!" We thought that was pretty cool. Anyway, he is one day ahead of me. It has been lots of fun. I know that some of the days will be pretty challenging, but we look forward to it. The other day, I was supposed to buy something that lets Bob know that I was thinking about him. Bob has everything he needs, and doesn't want for much. He is always hard to buy for. So, I decided to buy him his favorite pop, favorite candy (twizzlers), and pistachios--and told him we would rent a movie and relax for the night. He really enjoyed and needed it.

Any of you seen Fireproof? Anyone doing the Love Dare??

I Know...

I know, I know, it has be waaaaaay too long.

For an update, we are painting our dining room and kitchen at present. I am so excited to get this done, as we sampled about 10 different colors a year ago and finally chose one. Then we painted it, and after a while, we decided it still wasn't right. We finally hired someone to do it for us--I think it will finally be right...I hope.

Also, here are some pictures of what other things we have been doing:

Tie-dyed coffee filters

Messy fingers--such fun!

Scrubbing coins (this is an activity I had Tayva do to keep her busy for a few minutes while I finished supper. She LOVED it--she would have cleaned a million coins if I would have given her that many. I told her that we were cleaning daddy's coins, so she was so proud to show him how she made all his coins shiny.)

Drinking "coffee" (water)
