I have had some people give me a painful grimace when I tell them I have a 23 month old and another one on the way. They act as though they feel sorry for me that I will have two children to "tend to". What a pity for them to look at children as such a burden.
Here is a quote from Stepping Heavenward that I ran across, and hit home with me--please read it:
A friend says to Katy (the character):
You shall now have one more mouth to fill and two more feet the more to shoe, more disturbed nights, more laborious days, and less leisure or visiting, reading, music, and drawing.
Her response?
Well! That is one side of the story, to be sure, but I look at the other. Here is a sweet, fragrant mouth to kiss; here are two more feet to make music with their pattering about my nursery. Here is a soul to train for God; and the body in which it dwells is worthy all it will cost, since it is the abode of a kingly servant. I may see less of friends, but I have gained one dearer than them all, to whom, while I minister in Christ’s name, I make a willing sacrifice of what little leisure for my own recreation my other darlings had left me. Yes, my precious baby, you are welcome to your mother’s heart, welcome to her time, her strength, her health, her tenderest cares, to her lifelong prayers! Oh, how rich I am, how truly, how wondrously blest!
Do we trust God when He says, "children are a blessing from the Lord"?

I couldn't agree more. What a tragedy that our culture has turned raising children into a burden.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Children ARE a blessing and we have to choose to SEE THEM AS THE BLESSINGS from the Lord that they truly are!
I am very happy to read again your blog after ten days off( I was in a holiday out of Madrid).
I hope Bob to feel better soon.
As to people who see children as a burden, I pity them for their egocentricity.
Hi Shaunna,
I was just talking to my mom about that very topic!! I don't get that look quite as often now- but when I was very pregnant and Simon was an early walker- I got the look a lot. My kids are 19 mos apart and if I could do it all over again... I would... in a heartbeat! :) They get a kick out of the same things- they can entertain each other with the same toys and they both fit into my lap & my arms at the same time. When they both decide they need to be carried- it's a juggling act- but it can be done!!
Congratulations on #2! :)
Shaunna,
Wonderful, wise words about children.
For those who don't know: our son, Levi, is adopted from India. Shaunna and Bob were at the airport when Levi arrived!
We are so incredibly blessed to have Levi as our son. Hearing him call me, "Mama," makes me teary-eyed sometimes. "Thank God for kids."
Shaunna, the quote under your name in your e-mails really sums up the importance of motherhood. Thank you!
Andrea
