Ok, so I have to get on my soap box for a few minutes here. I know that some of you will be surprised that I am going to be so blunt, but this is my blog, where I can express my own opinion, so here it goes. Hold on to your hats folks--this could get ugly.
Who are you voting for?? That's right, I am wondering who you are voting for. This is a source of such frustration for me. Here is my point. I actually don't really care WHO you are voting for, it is WHAT you are voting for that concerns me. Honestly, I have been incredibly disappointed in people in the Christian community and the way they vote.
Let me explain myself (or try to anyway). First of all, would you agree that we are to follow what the Bible says? ( i.e. Should we follow the 10 commandments and the other laws that are stated in the Bible?) If you are a Bible-believing Christian, the obvious answer to that is "yes". Should we follow the Bible above all other man-made laws and put that above our own selfish wants? Um....that should be another "yes".
Ok, then, why in the world do we shove all those beliefs aside when we enter the voting booth? Why as Christians do we decide that it is OK to vote for someone who believes in abortion or same-sex marriages? As a Christian nation, we have decided that it is more important to vote based on our pocket books (or what we believe will benefit our pocket books the most) instead of voting based on our moral standard. Why should God bless America when we have basically told Him that we don't care what he thinks. We have made it perfectly clear to God that we are more interested in our economic status or healthcare status rather than obeying his laws and commands and sticking up for what is right!!
Seriously, how can we say that we must obey the Bible, but then on voting day, we vote someone through who has NO INTEREST whatsoever in upholding Biblical principles?? I admire Dr James Dobson who has said from years ago that he will NOT vote for anyone who will not defend life (he won't vote for someone who is pro-abortion or pro-embryonic stem cell research) or someone who won't defend the family (someone who is for same-sex marriage and someone who won't defend the traditional family). It is not right to say that God is first in your life, and then put Him on the back-burner when it comes time to vote! Do we think that God put standards in the Bible for no reason? Of course not--they are meant to be obeyed!!
So, as the election season heats up, I challenge you to vote based on Biblical law and standards instead of voting based on your wallet. This election is important. The next president will be choosing Supreme Court Justices, and they are responsible for decisions regarding abortion and other important topics. Also, the next president will have a lot to do with the direction of marriage--we need to defend marriage between a man and a woman!! (unless you want families to completely fall apart!!!) Don 't base your vote on who looks "most presidential" or who has the most charisma--that is SO shallow! Vote for someone who will uphold and protect your beliefs, and Biblical standards!!!
Enough said.

Since when does voting for a democrat help the pocket book??
Seriouslly though, I totally agree. I would rather drop dead then ever cast a vote for DEMOCRAT, I mean that! Just look at all of the junk they vote for!Plus who has their party symbol as a donkey a.k.a. jack #@*
And I would like to add just one more thing (I could go on but I won't) I am not sure who is WORSE Hillary or Obama. Obama does have a more liberal voting record but only because Hillary has known all along that she would run for president, hence, keeping her record much more moderate.
If anybody is going to vote for either of these two PLEASE do us all a favor and move to Canada (or France) Either or take your pick. You can experience what socialism is all about and then decide if you'd like to move back or not. I'm guessing you'll probably move back after experiencing some sort of medical emergency but have to wait 6 months on the governments waiting list vs. immediate care in the U.S. Hopefully it won't be too late!
Heather,
I should have known you'd have some good stuff to say! :)
So here I go outing myself as a bit of a hippie liberal. First off, thank you for speaking your mind about what you are passionate about. I get so tired of all the fluff conversations people have. It's refreshing to read something in the "mommy world" that has some real meat to it.
I think, though, that just because you vote for someone who is pro choice, doesn't mean you yourself doesn't value life. For example, you may be vehemently opposed to the Iraq war. Nobody would disagree that there is a lot of life, both American and foreign, lost over there. Also, the atrocities occurring in Darfur. There a lot of lives that need to be saved there, too. I read a really interesting article in Newsweek recently about abortion and a pastor who labels himself, "pro life with a heavy heart". What was written made a lot of sense to me. Here's the link to the story, http://www.newsweek.com/id/130710 For some people the question might not be wether to save lives, but which lives and who can save the most.
Also, the environment is a very important topic that does affect life on this planet and life to come. I want my kids and grandkids to be able to grow up period. And it seems the way we are treating our world, it's a very serious threat to them. The Bible commands us to be good stewards. So one could argue that by voting who I think is going to safe guard our environment, that I was following the Bible?
Also, regarding same sex marriage. Here's the thing, and it's possible that I'm missing something really obvious, but I don't see how homosexuals are hurting families. I'm not saying homosexuality is right, but if I lived next door to a homosexual couple, I can't figure out how they would be hurting my family. I've known quite a few gay folk and for the most part they really aren't that different than the rest of us. And I am far from perfect, so I cannot judge them when I struggle with my own sin.
Honestly, I haven't decided who I'm voting for yet, but my pocketbook (or lack of!) hasn't even entered my mind. I would say that I'm leaning more toward the crazy liberal side (and no, Heather, I'm not going to move to Canada :P) of things and I really don't think that makes me any less Christian. It just means we might just be voting on different issues and having to make the choice of one life over another.
Thank you again for your bluntness and passion. I for one, truly did enjoy reading it and it makes you stop and dig deep into why you believe what you believe.

Well Shaunna! It seems as though you have stirred things up a bit! :) Just thought you would find it interesting that Alex was glued to the democratic debate tonight! He was so focused on what they were saying. We may have the making of an honest politician on our hands! :) Thanks for speaking your mind..... Love ya, hope you are feeling better. I'll call you tomorrow.
Becky
Loved this POST and I cannot AGREE more. You should not have to defend yourself on YOUR blog and YES many Christians are becoming iwhy washy to issues. It is sick. God doesn't like Luke warm Christianity and we need to decide what issues are things we can live with , ie tax issues and what things we CANNOT ie. abortion.
